Artspace2Let is a not for profit organisation dedicated to exhibiting new and emerging artists' work in and around Edinburgh.

We know what it's like trying to get a foot on the art-career ladder, so we keep commission charges low, assist with hanging work and help artists to make connections that will hopefully help them to develop a supportive and informed network of contacts - as well as hopefully finding buyers.

Douglas, John

In a frame in my house you will find the first image I ever shot that made me think there was something more interesting could come from using a camera other than simply creating a reminder (it’s of Bono but don’t hold that against me).

The first images I began to create for any real artistic reasons were, despite being surrounded by this incredible city, still life images influenced by artists like Edward Weston, a photographer whose series of pepper images blew me away.

My time spent studying photography at Edinburgh College confirmed to me that becoming a photographer was something I had to make happen. There is a feeling I get during shooting that is only there whilst looking through a viewfinder. Once I lift the camera to my eye, the only thing in my mind is capturing the right image for that moment.

Today my favourite images I shoot all contain a human element, be it a more conventional portrait, a commercial image, a candid shot or some trace of a human influence on the environment I’m in.

Despite my early forays into still life photography, nothing makes me want pick up my camera more than us and what we do to the world around us.
